i'm running lucid (10.4) server , using kvm. server x64 12gb of memory. created 2 vms, both using kubuntu 8.10. allocated 2gb ram first image , 1gb second vm. memory consumption in server 2x that. 7gb , neither of vms running. (normal usage before vms 1.5 gb of memory. have 2 questions. 1)is there anyway keep kvm hanging on of memory when vms shut down. 2) consume memory when running? comparison, used virtual box on little acer laptop create vm 1gb of memory , laptop *has* 1.6 gb physical memory , there memory left on when vm running. how measuring memory usage? maybe counting cached memory well. i'm using encore cs4.  i'm creating project several hd video files , menu select video watch.  video files have been transcoded original pr pro project , in h.264.  in project tab of encore size of 1 of videos correctly listed 3gb, in timelines tab says encoded size 1.58gb.  why?  mean intends downscale video lower definition? your h.264 assets presumably still hd -1920x1080, 1440x1080, or 1280x720?  if so, encore have transcode them dvd legal format, i.e. mpeg2 standard definition video.  create files of reduced size. hi, i'm using image trace trace black , white shape , need pointers on procedure i'm getting unwanted results.   i want end 1 shape, yet (especially seems complex shapes) seem end stacked duplicate. when use 'expand' on result make editable i've tried wtih both 'fills' , 'object' checked , 'fills', , doesn't seem make difference either way.   in image trace options i've black , white settings create fills checked (i want no strokes), , have ignore white selected because don't want border around shapes black on white.   can explain how trace expanded 1 shape per shape (as were). when 'release compound' or ungroup see theres' double shape. it's unworkable don't have time delete copy.   any appreciated   (thanks stupid text box making process slower need be) check ignore white avoid duplicate paths. the resulting trace single compound path.   if forgot ignore white can direct select 1 of white bits, select same ...

i have finished installing ubuntu on laptop again , can't take these issues longer. first issue volume doesn't scale correctly. if change volume level, see acts if between 80% , 100% full scale. if aren't sure mean, liken unto exponential curve almost. unable desired volume level without effort. second issue bigger one. there static sound coming speakers. it's not outright noticeable, it's audible. static noise continue indefinitely until go change volume. speakers make loud crackling sound, slight static stop , quiet... until 5 seconds later, when static start again. know problem and/or possible solution? i've been using macbook pro , premiere pro 6 capture hdv project requires numerous short on-location interviews. after capture via firewire, rough edit , transfer project mac pro tower later in studio finishing. third of captures in premiere pro result in spinning beachball of death on macbook. admittedly late 2008 model running latest mac os , 6gb of ram i've not experienced other issues. macbook motherboard has packed in , i'm looking replacement field capture/edit solution. new macbook out of running reasons of both cost , lack of firewire 800 port. have experience using pc notebook capture via firewire? realize it's seldom-used workflow these days , it's tough find pc notebook firewire 800. however, thought i'd best ask out there might having better luck using windows notebook, seeing present macbook solution requires force quit after every third capture. dv capture may work on firewire 400, common on windows laptop anyway, so...that works out. i tried installing ubuntu 11.10 on new laptop (hp pavilion dv6-6b20se). didn't want complete re-install , pre-partitioning hard disk, tried shrinking main ntfs partition (which 620gb + recovery , system partitions) , partitioning unallocated space, using ubuntu setup. showed 50gb tried shrink unusable allocate, expanded ntfs partition original size. not wanting give up, tried again. again, said unusable, expanded again. after rebooting, , booting in win7, noticed 50gb missing c: partition. cannot found disk manager or gparted. can post image of disk management and/or gparted? can't go missing. maybe it's left unallocated space not belonging partition. hp ships laptops 4 primary partitions used. that's why if have unallocated space, ubuntu can't install because 4 primary partitions maximum, can't create more. , don't try many times, can trouble. can consider deleting 1 of restore or...

hi hope doing well. new forum , relatively new ubuntu... has been within 2 years of using ubuntu. started ubuntu 10.04. os sold me on ubuntu , gladly took me away ms. recently, have done full install of ubuntu 11.10. after using os week or so, have noticed issues never experienced 10.04. those issues being: 1) difficulty of changing web browser firefox google chrome... (the main reason change due experiencing of frequent crashes of adobe flash. reason sudden freezing of firefox during routine search. used google chrome in abuntu 10.04 , found worked great.) 2) restart..... not work.... clicking restart seems put system limbo , have shut down system manually. i got handle on keywords & hierarchies , made sure keywords export. went title & caption images.  4 previous folders of images when did that, when told me there metadata conflict, hit "resolve" , fix , tell me "up date".  keywording , adding captions in lightroom 4.4. not using external editor. have lr images in ".dng" now, finished 2 more folders , when tried resolve conflict, gave me error message on of them. metadata status in right pane says"changed on disk" (but still shows alert on image)   as test, selected 1 image , tried resolve got same message. prompts me "save metadata file?", informing me xmp written "dng" files , prompts me cancel or continue. when hit continue, gives me error message i/o , says not write metadata.  if choose "read metadata file", erases keywords , title , caption.  tried "updating dng preview & metadata" seems stall when looking @ task bar.   also, difference when...

hello all, i've tried looking through of problems wireless networking , can't quite find 1 resolves issue. here's deal. install of ubuntu 11.10 on laptop week old, , wireless working proprietary broadcom sta wireless drivers. i'm not sure if due update or what, shut laptop down, , today can't connect wireless network. network manager shows wireless interface, , shows access point. however, when click on it, nothing happens. device lspci: code: 04:00.0 network controller: broadcom corporation bcm4312 802.11b/g lp-phy (rev 01) so far i've tried stopping , restarting network manager, rebooting, removing , reinstalling driver additional drivers window, , i've installed firmware-b43-lpphy-installer via software center. i've removed , reinstalled bcmwl-kernel-source. none of seems change anything. appreciated. thanks! ok, got working... sort of. , how. ran sud...

hello, facing keyboard layout issue. use azerty (french) keyboard. works great keys, except can accessed using key modifier 'alt gr'. in particular #{[|`\^@]}, top row (0-9 digits), doesn't work. using remote desktop application , bug on application. i'm looking work around, use these keys. such workaround write script instance, map these keys actual keys. wouldn't know how that. please me. thanks. probably should wait until new hard drive before submit question, have free time now. few months ago acer aspire m1610, 1gb ram, 250gb hdd, ati raydeon x1550 graphics card, started acting funny. @ time had windows xp pro installed, couldn't boot , in flailing around trying fix boot sector trashed partition table. luckily had live cd of maverick meercat (ubuntu 10.10) downloaded in feb 2011, , able install , upgrade 11.04 , 11.10 , worked except getting constant messages "a hard drive reporting imminent failure," , kept losing sectors , month couldn't boot more, still able use live cd , discovered "persistent sessions," allows lot better experience. anyway, time first upgraded 11.04, have noticed programs, firefox browser, time time change color grayscale , stall while. have referred "going dark," because window looks darker when in color. happens programs: movie viewer (pretty often), firefox (constantly, can't run progr...

using robohelp 10.  text displays larger other text, apparenty because of whether copied design editor other sources.  cannot change.  how can change this? are seeing in project or in generated output? it’s little unclear question. if it’s in project, styles being overridden inline styling got carried in when pasted; you’ll need root out apply styles. if it’s in generated output, suspect in application of css being used. ok, i've searched around, none of topics i've seen suit case, here goes: use unity, , have done since natty. time has been malfunctioning, in way when log in in normal way, no tricks in session, starting through default way, doesn't show unity or window manager/compiz. windows start without border, , see nautilus' menu on top. keyboard focus broken, , yeah. know can't problem hardware performance, , know it's not direct incompatibility since can start through workaround. (ssh+export display or add startup entries) these seem add lot of unnecessary loading time. quite time, wallpaper shows, , have wait usual startup entries running before unity pops up.
