Thread: Unity doesn't start on login
ok, i've searched around, none of topics i've seen suit case, here goes:
use unity, , have done since natty. time has been malfunctioning, in way when log in in normal way, no tricks in session, starting through default way, doesn't show unity or window manager/compiz. windows start without border, , see nautilus' menu on top. keyboard focus broken, , yeah.
know can't problem hardware performance, , know it's not direct incompatibility since can start through workaround. (ssh+export display or add startup entries)
these seem add lot of unnecessary loading time. quite time, wallpaper shows, , have wait usual startup entries running before unity pops up. (gnome shell pops in 2 seconds after hitting enter, comparison.)
first command attempts regular syntax:
this 1 doesn't seem work in case, clear screen. guess can't make start "unity" command? (it won't show in menu if use first one.)code:gnome-session --session=ubuntu
i've been wondering if should make xinit.rc file unity put in separate entry. (of course)
i'll post debug information running "gnome-session --session=ubuntu" later.
useful know:
got 1 of latest fglrx drivers, built amd's site. (don't worry, made .deb package ubuntu. it's set , neatly.)
ask more information if needed.
current workaround:
this works currently, neither safe or compatible future changes.code:#!/usr/bin/env bash unity & gnome-session --session=ubuntu
output of gnome-session command, did couple of hints. first unity doesn't seem in procedure @ all, it's not started it. script above make login faster , keeps desktop intact (none of ugly icons show), again, need better solution more future-proof.
