Thread: can Ubuntu & Windows 7 software co-exist on same wireless router?
hi,
bought linksys wireless router ( wrt54gl ) , going try set up. have laptop has windows 7 on it, , in near future going put dual boot ubuntu 11.10 on it.
have set-up cd router ( windows ) , going run install router, don't want overwrite in firmware of router not let me use router 11.10 if install windows cd.
question:
can use same router on both os's on laptop, 11.10 & windows 7, or installing windows software cd screw router when go set 11.10 router ?
here cnet website has specs on router:

routers don't care os connects them, communicate using internet protocols common systems.
"setup cd" you've been given superfluous. can set router web browser going ip of router , entering password (the router assign ip 192.168.1.1 or similar). setup cd automates of process, don't have use if don't want to. doesn't install on router, points browser right place.
bottom line: set router using windows cd if like. make sure change admin password router , wifi ssid. make note of wifi password. when install ubuntu later you'll need enter wifi password connected. won't need set router again.
