hey everyone, figured appropriate place ask since i'm still pretty new linux. realize basic question please try refrain making fun of me ok? anyway, i'm running ubuntu 11.10 , boot disk mushkin chronos 64gb ssd. have traditional hard drive installed file storage. both drives work fine, , i'm impressed how fast boot-up time setup. 1 thing kind of disturbs me though: when first installed ubuntu (on brand new system) 5 days ago, filesystem , home folder showed there 50gb free space remaining. expected much, owing system files , swap partition. since have installed few programs through software centre (nothing big though, things gparted, vlc, nvidia drivers, , couple others). yesterday said had 49 or 50 gb free (which expected), morning shocked learn has 6gb free! didn't believe @ first, went gparted confirm it, , said same thing. happened? normal? forgive me if question has been asked before; i'm used mac os x system phenomenon little new me...

i'm attempting transfer photographs large wedding shoot off of canon mark 2 5d , onto lightroom, way do.  today, after transfering 1 memory cards images without glitch, there seems problem reading images 2nd memory card's contents transfered lightroom.  although images come thumbnails initially, when starting import process, when proceed, lr tells me "no photos or videos found import." i have restarted both camera , lr multiple times same thing every time.  also, says "preparing import" @ stage of game, nothing ever happens.  how can fix issue?  super important work, needs happen soon, thank you. -airyka this sounds me hardware problem.   it bad card reader or usb cable, bad usb port, bad camera card, or maybe bad hard disk on computer.   if have different hardware way hook camera card computer, give try. hello. new ubuntu. have several laptops in family on we've installed ubuntu 11.10. several dual boot windows vista , few ubuntu only. have older desktop - 512mb ram on network. our internet connection via satellite because live in country, have severe limitations on bandwidth available. have 3 things accomplish, possibly using desktop server(?). 1. create content controls laptops connected network (main priority). because have satellite, opendns not work (i've looked it). 2. monitor amount of internet traffic , possibly alert when threshhold has been exceeded (nice not necessary). 3. create caching server ubuntu package updates have download them once , reuse machines (would helpful). have done lot of reading, linux noobie, , don't know network configurations, dhcp, etc. i'm not sure of best way go this. things seem simple still assume knowledge don't yet have. so, possible 3 of these? if not, best way implement content controls networ...

first, support been given here, helpfull! second, got issue since adobe muse first came:   how can stick side of browser no matter width user seeing website, without pin let's left side of screen.   when i'm using pin - work it's not moving, want object (shape, text box, etc..) stick side header , footer side.   if can me out lovely!       thanks lot! t t -- when pinning object using pin spot on left or right side (not middle top or bottom pin). left , right pins should keep object @ same distance left or right side of browser. i have background image looks old wood boards (like side of old western barn) , want put text , image on it. however, looks fake. there way simulate wood texture of background image onto text , added graphic make painted onto barn?   as always, anny help hello,   you can use different blend modes achieve effect. choosing best blend mode depend on few things (color of graphic, how dark background, etc). if in doubt, experiment different blend modes until results looking for.   here's example in right direction:   just keep old wood boards background layer, , play around different blend modes on text , graphic layers. can tweak further messing around opacity make more subtle.   please post if have questions.     edit: you add layer fx bevel , emboss text/graphic:     adjust settings taste, , should give nice effect. hello i'm creating small animation,   i have working knowledge of after effects cs6, first time delving animation.   so i'm kind of unsure of best method this, i've tried masking solid , keyframing shape change other, it's doesn't give fluid motion i'm seeking.   this sort of effect.     obviously without costly plug-in preferred. thank in advance can me.   also more liquid droplets better.   thank you   tom make 2 circles , sit them on top of each other. add adjustment layer on them. apply blur effect adjustment layer , crank up/ apply levels effect adjustment layer , - on alpha levels (not main levels) crush blacks , whites until circle looks solid , unblurred.   now, animate 1 circle moving out behind other.   that may not you're after, might start.
