Thread: Ubuntu 11.10 upgrade. Network cable unplugged

hi, inherited desktop box (no wireless) ubuntu on son. worked great until invited me upgrade v 11.10. on second use. having done - no network , network panel on "hard wired" says "network cable unplugged" not, in fact plugged both leds active @ both ends.

cannot ping hub. son tried bunch of stuff no avail. if not resolved tomorrow, hello windows - need machine work!!

if run:
ifconfig

say?

also, say:
cat /etc/network/interfaces

can try this: download 11.10 image, burn cd (low speed, 8x or 10x) , boot live mode it. see if wired network works in live mode. should.
