Thread: Cannot install Ubuntu - no root partition

hey folks,

can't seem install ubuntu 10.04, 11.04 or 11.10. i've tried swapping out thumb drives, changing sata emulation raid ide/achi. used gparted pre-prepare extended linux partition. no matter what, seems installer refuses see of hard drive partitions. if run off live cd, can access of said partitions. windows 7 partition runs without hitch.

attached screens , dxdiag. i'm running out of ideas personally. may try different linux distro altogether...see if have luck. in advance.

you need check in windows disk management whether disk basic or dynamic. should basic, ubuntu doesn't understand dynamic disks because ms format.

if it's basic, possible issue raid meta data remains if disk has been used in raid before. meta data stays there after formatting. windows ignores ubuntu doesn't. doesn't show partitions during install.

if problem, , if not running raid, in live mode in terminal do:
sudo dmraid -e -r /dev/sda

confirm remove meta data , off go.
