Thread: Accidently ran pvcreate or lvm on existing luks drive

i have encrypted external usb drive, encrypted using luks, or cryptsetup. made huge mistake of running lvm apps possible pvcreate, pvchange, thinking working on drive(recovering lvm/luks drive @ time, drive im having problems with, luks encrypted drive no lvm intended setup)

1 thing luks header still on drive, did luksdump , keys there, can unlock drive too. cant mount it. using blkid, when drive unlocked, noticed mapper device partition, not showing type=ext3 showing type="lvm2_member" now. when mount mapper drive, says mount: unknown filesystem type 'lvm2_member'

positive thing used -f or fake switch , can see drive still has data, , think matter of changing way oneiric system sees drive. can try change type crypto_luks without data loss because have data, lots of 100% used. using mount -f fake mount, can see partition properties , accurate. although have few ways think fix it, rather ask ubuntu comminity prevent error again.

add, fdisk shows drive properties, no problems there.

is there way remove way sees luks encrypted drive luks , not lvm2_member? did digging , might possible use blkid change type luks, again im not clear if fix how system sees drive. dont have drive available 750g free space make img in case goes wrong. possible remove lvm properties if created lvm pv volume on accident? know sure theres no logical volumes. since drive has 1 partition, , in fdisk still showing 1 partition ext3. sounds promosing repair. been through such situation without wrecking luks header? mean can up, have no clue how remove pv safely
