Thread: Install Button Disabled

i spent day trying install build-essential, , considering seriouslly come windows, because if takes whole day of searches , tries install basic thing installed, scared of comes latter.

well, have no access internet pc ubuntu installed. apparently, ubuntu not made situation. after time, i've found build-essential package download (a .deb archive). when open software center, says "dependency not satisfiable", , have find package version of g++. did that, , again, "dependency not satisfiable", , had find version , on.

ended "gcc-4.4-base_4.4.4-14ubuntu5.1". aparently, basic thing need on chain. opening it, there no error text, install button disabled.

if search problem on internet, appears synaptic, synaptic... ubuntu version (11.10) doesn't have synaptics. there no single page saying if there way install deb file without software center or why button disabled.

hi can install .deb files as
code:
sudo dpkg -i filename.deb
