Thread: Really weird RECENT auto-on & auto-off printer problem!

boy, driving me nuts, since nothing on system has changed ... except standard updates update manager. system same before, no new or different hardware, , i'm using same printer i've been using past 8 - 12 months. printer brother mfc j410w, connected via usb 2.0 cable directly computer.

few days ago, perhaps week @ most, tried printing forms print on regular basis ... time nothing happened. print job stayed in cue long time ... without error messages. checked ... system ... printing ... , saw installed printer had appeared pause button on ??? wth ???

right clicked printer properties saw comment:
printer unplugged or turned off

what? how did happen?
of course when checked everything, printer power & cable fine.

okay, figured quirk weird reason , restarted computer. after restart printer worked fine, didn't have change anywhere. selected forms, chose print, , voila, both forms printed without problem. but ... today same thing happened. same pause button, same "unplugged" message in printer properties. else ever experience or have solution problem? i'd sure hate restart system of time before print anything. nuts ... !!!

.

okay, brother mfc-j410w printer working again!
had delete system, followed new installation this:
(same when first bought printer since ubuntu/xubuntu not recognize automatically)

1. go brother website, find , download these 2 files desktop:
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com...nload_prn.html
mfcj410wlpr-1.1.1-1.i386.deb
mfcj410wcupswrapper-1.1.1-1.i386.deb

2. open terminal in order open file manager root privileges.
when terminal open, nautilus type: gksu nautilus (password required)
if you're using xubuntu thunar file manager type: gksu thunar

3. have follow step 2 because otherwise may not have root access privileges following. affter file manager opened up, go system ... var ... , open spool folder. once spool folder open, create new directory/folder there, entitled: lpd
enter lpd folder , create yet directory/folder entitled:
mfcj410w

okay, that's need file manager. out of folders , close file manager. then we'll go terminal final steps of printer installation. first need enter desktop via terminal. that's easy enough, type:
cd desktop

since downloaded 2 files onto desktop, enter following command in terminal (wait process finish once you've done that):

sudo dpkg -i --force-all mfcj410wlpr-1.1.1-1.i386.deb

if went without errors, enter command next:
sudo dpkg -i --force-all mfcj410wcupswrapper-1.1.1-1.i386.deb

again, wait awhile process complete. exit terminal typing exit. when done, use main menu locate printing options ... located in system settings, or that. when locate printing options go ahead , click on that. a small window printer should open up on screen. if see printer, right click on , select set default menu. that's it, you're off , printing ....
(you might want bookmark forum link future references)
