Thread: cannot submit datapipe for urb 0, error -28: not enough bandwidth

first, bit of background: machine in question used student radio organization. equipped behringer uca202 usb audio interface, primary task run darkice, real-time audio encoder, 24/7 encode incoming audio mp3 , funnel off icecast server. (secondary tasks include playing playlisted , prerecorded content.) machine running ubuntu 10.10 32-bit.

recently, i've been running repeating problem literally hundreds of copies of following error generated per second , logged in /var/log/kern.log , /var/log/syslog, filling primary hard drive (a 32gb ssd):

i'm not sure related to. starts occurring directly after darkice process starts – restart darkice twice per day: once @ noon serve broadcast day configuration file using localdumpfile functionality, , once @ 23:00 configuration file doesn't specify local dump – , may occur regardless of configuration file used. in event occur, darkice fails send audio icecast server.

i'm not aware of way systematically reproduce issue. make hush , stop bothering things, following:

• stop rsyslog.
• delete offending bloated log files.
• kill darkice process.
• restart rsyslog.
• restart darkice.

feel issue may not directly related darkice, due fact darkice has not been updated since system set up: we're still running 0.20.1; moreover, there have not been real changes software since version. have suspicion may have been due kernel issue, seems have gone away/come kernel updates have been released; given that, tried manually updating natty kernel (2.6.38-13-generic-pae) doesn't seem have changed anything.

appreciated – obviously, when error arises, cripples broadcast until can it.

did google "cannot submit datapipe urb 0, error -28: not enough bandwidth"? because when that, see lot of options / causes:

- kernel version
- no / usb hub
- powered usb hub / device
- alsa player sound mute
