want use remaining 46 gb available space in /dev/sda1 install fedora 16 without losing existing data.i
please advise how proceed
please let me know if additional details needed.
1. need make full backup of data. shrinking partitions carries risk of data loss.
2. need boot computer ubuntu cd in live mode (not hdd), open gparted , shrink /dev/sda1 space want. aware can't shrink of 46gb free because ubuntu not work if root partition 100% full. can't leave without free space.
3. when have unallocated space left after shrink, install fedora onto it. select not install bootloader during fedora install , after during first ubuntu boot run update-grub , detect , create entry in boot menu. leave grub2 ubuntu on mbr.
make sure fedora doesn't install lvm or something, not sure how installs these days. that's job investigate , know doing.
