Thread: Solving overheating problem using Ubuntu
hello friends,
due laptop, lenovo thinkpad edge 14", going repairs, decided dualboot ubuntu 11.10. reason repairs because of crackling audio in skype , internet. lenovo replaced motherboard, sound card , all. however, did not, usual, update drivers , windows (which baffles me because think they'd considering it's @ lenovo warehouse being fixed newest , best equipment...?).
turned on , noticed running bit louder , hotter usual. anyway, came instructions dl drivers , windows updates... eighty nine of them. , of course, voice in of mind predicted, continually overheated upon trying install them making windows impossible run. , used lenovo toolbox search hardware/software problems , said fine.
dualbooted ubuntu (thinking ubuntu isn't of memory hog , has no huge updates), installed skype, , hey look. no crackling. coincidence? figures. after challenges reinstalled windows thinking overheating software or something, fresh new windows, still overheated. conclusion hardware issue.
can please tell me how fix/diagnose using ubuntu? or find part making computer run marathon? since messed around , installed ubuntu, lenovo not take repairs because have caused (even though before).
if i'm in wrong thread, please feel free remove, figured since ubuntu works , can't on windows, can using diagnose it?
great. thank reading this.
welcome forums.
i'm little confused- computer started out windows, dual booted ubuntu, replaced windows alone? or still dual boot computer? , overheats in windows. overheat in ubuntu?
if suspect hardware, imo need @ hardware. open laptop. maybe lenovo little sloppy , left blocking fan. might able fasten cables make more room cooling.
