Thread: Host: fanaticalvps Error: Could Not Determine Fully Qualified Domain Name

hi. have shared host 5 sites on it. 3 wordpress blogs have nothing on it. 1 xenforo forum year , 1/2 old , xenforo couple months old, inactive. have of on urljet shared hosting. site around 3gb total.

decided move offshore unmanaged vps because of several problems have urljet such i'm not able use cdns service , can't use geoip them either digitalpoint's user map.

have fanaticalvps medium package 70gb space, unmetered bandwidth, 700 ram. control panel confusing in ways in yes can install multiple os provide keep getting stuck on 'the perfect server' kind of guides because settings don't match see.


i've been trying follow the perfect server guide ubuntu 10.04 time , keep running several errors. none of how-to guides have addressed issue , customer support fanaticalvps answers aren't helping me either.


first issue.

fellow customer has same host me told me not touch network/interfaces file mentioned in step 7: configure network.

result, i've skipped step , went straight second part of step 7. second part of step 7 asks me edit etc/hosts/ file this:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.0.100 server1.example.com server1

when opened /etc/hosts file looked this:

::1 localhost.localdomain localhost
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

189.4.232.100 rubix


^^^btw using made number ip address , host name.

because ip address , host name showing looked different sample shown (no server1.example.com type entry) created ticket , asked fanaticalvps customer support following question:

q: hello. i'm trying set host name. changed rubix asking me fqdn. use fqdn? example, in perfect server guide asks me update file. /etc/hosts

a: hi, set hostname need change in control panel, otherwise reset every time reboot vps.

note /etc/hosts not correct file, /etc/hostname contains hostname.

checked hostname , same host name in hosts file (rubix).

when type hostname in command line , hostname -f well, rubix.

asked them this:

a: entering this? if it's dns need set a-record domain/sub-domain ip (hostname makes no difference this, can point domain/sub-domain ip or without hostname set).

apache2: not reliably determine server's qualified domain name using 189.4.232.100 servername


still no answer i'm creating thread here in hopes of getting kind of answer makes since. noob i've been @ couple days , have learned lot.
