mpeg2 format/codec resolution of 720x480 , aspect ratio of 16.9. uk camcorder tape there 25fps , video bit rape of 8.0mbps. audio format has mpa codec , audio sample rate of 48khz. audio channel 2 , bit rate 192kbps.
i attemped emulate in elements 11 - application have bought - see if obtain similar quality. in elements 11, firstly went file | new | project , in 'change settings' clicked on pal (under available presets), dv, standard 48khz (see _settings screenshot).
i added movie. then, export it, used following settings (settings4elements screenshot).
the result, .mpg file , played through windows media player, of lower quality. noticeable there soldiers trumpets (during disneyland parade) and, unlike movie can see when vhs tape played via vcr connected tv, and unlike finished movie free software came vhs (c) tape hardware, cannot hear band @ in finished elements 11 .mpg file. moreover, figures move little out of keystone cops.

what software came digitizer? suspect mpeg default format if investigate software settings there other formats can choose give better quality.
mpeg compressed, when export again pre further compressing compressed original - , have seen quality deteriorates.
you should aware when viewing on high resolution computer monitor aren't getting true feel how may when played through tv via dvd player.
