Help turning shapes (& Text) to natural, fluid smoke

i'm working on music video friend. it's live recording, nothing fancy. there's lyric in song says: "the smoke seems spell out first name". noticed during footage of 1 of takes, @ perfect moment, gorgeous smoked hit lights set right , have try , name in there.

 

 

now, of course smoke moving. want add name make natural. mask simple solution, not make free moving smoke. i'm looking effect similar this:

 

 

there lot of great tutorials on smoke text out there (from video copilot example), none have achieved effect looking for.

 

can point me in right direction or offer advice?

 

additinoal notes:

-after effects v11

-i have trapcode particular on machine i'm using if helps & i'm open looking other plugins.

you won't make single layer. you'll need create displacement map distort shapes figure way use distorted shapes generate alpha chanel. if want use particular need familiar using light emitter.

 

there text smoke tutorials out there give starting point, recreating example precisely using ae isn't going or easy using 3d app.
