Thread: Ubuntu as a NAS


hi

i'm helping needs efficient way small business store huge amounts of data. obviously, recommended using old box, set headless ubuntu server , loads of hard disks attached it. i'm educated noob; comfortable command line , know way around ssh don't know nas.

tell me list of packages or point me in right direction on this? 1 requirement box must have user management. allowing users access own assigned folders. have no idea how works, or pointing me tutorial appreciated.

also, if kind enough me find tutorial on raid, make them more awesome!

honestly checkout freenas. has zfs, king of filesystems.
setup usage nas, nice web ui.
