Thread: Canceling GParted Problems
while no beginner linux in way, site , must begin adventure here in absolute beginner talk section.
here problem:
have 400gb internal laptop hdd partitioned have ubuntu , windows 7 running on it. windows 7 needed redone fresh booted ubuntu 11.10 livecd erase partition using gparted. decided wanted resize existing ubuntu partition. think going 300 full size of hard drive. started operation , waited 10 min. realized process going take very long time , hit cancel button end operation. problems begin. begins freeze , computer shut down
note: gparted cancellation operation did not complete should have , original ubuntu partition did not return previous state.
rebooting sent me grub rescue , livecd.
dont know go recovering ubuntu drive. nothing has been changed since restarted , while assume there possibility data loss, dont believe should much. worst case scenario have backup files , fresh install though dont know how able access files.
if need more info let me know hope fixed quickly.
i'm guessing filesystem resize operation took long. gparted dummy run, it'd take twice long actual operation well.
did try mounting linux partitions livecd? if filesystem messed up, mount should complain. fsck of partitions livecd. possible, copy unique data source, since recovery no means sure @ point.
after done, start gparted again, , check out state of partitions. if can remember old (down few mb give or take), can try resizing old size.
