trying have total control on creation of filesystem. have been sticking plan have minimal features, have external hard drive, , wanted add feature "has_journal" in case accidentally unplugged, without taking other features called in /etc/mke2fs.conf.

if fill in, answer question. assume filesystem in question never need have additional features other called in mkfs.ext2/ext3/ext4 commands.

ubuntu 9.04 (referring /etc/mke2fs.conf):
section [defaults]
sparse_super: need 256 (i doubt it)
filetype: need 256 (i doubt it)
resize_inode: need 256?
dir_index: need 256?
ext_attr: need 256?

section [ext3]
has_journal: need 256?



ok, latest version, of post. in scenario looking @ installing ubuntu 11.10 on internal drive, , curious features in ext4 must have inode size set 256.

ubuntu 11.10(referring /etc/mke2fs.conf):
section [ext4]
extent: need 256?
huge_file: need 256?
flex_bg: need 256?
uninit_bg: need 256?
dir_nlink: need 256?
extra_isize: need 256?


hope way lot of questions can answered @ once.

finally, in case of external hard drive, wonder if picked correct features usage. dumpe2fs, current features set are:
"has_journal dir_index filetype sparse_super"

storing lot of files, why chose dir_index , filetype. have used mke2fs without features, know sparse_super must larger 1gb. again, being external drive, adding has_journal because more vulnerable internal drive, being unplugged before unmount completes.

called mke2fs arguments including ^resize_inode,^ext_attr" cancel two, don't plan make changes or enhancements functionality of filesystem.
