Thread: Laptop fan constantly running at a high speed
i've had lenovo y530 2 years , had never had problems it. recently, however, fan started running @ high speed, while had been pretty silent unless running cpu-intensive program.
first thing did open laptop , clean fan - there lot of dust, , though didn't manage take fan out parts blocking it, think removed of dust. fan runs little better now, still never goes silent - *really* annoying when have work in silent environment.
checked if problem lies on side of os , haven't found anything. checked top straining cpu. unfortunately fan in lenovo model cannot controlled ubuntu far i'm aware (fancontrol doesn't work, instance), options limited. checked overheating, sensors doesn't report unusual:
there no bios updates model out of question.code:acpitz-virtual-0 adapter: virtual device temp1: +43.0°c (crit = +95.0°c) coretemp-isa-0000 adapter: isa adapter core 0: +35.0°c (high = +90.0°c, crit = +90.0°c) core 1: +36.0°c (high = +90.0°c, crit = +90.0°c)
suggestions? how can locate cause of problem? i've read multiple threads on topic , none of them solved issue.
help!
hate it, if use laptop lot (e.g., daily), it's possible fan wearing out.
started encountering similar problems xp-era laptop few months ago. opened , cleaned out, , had same experience -- worked quietly while, on time, fan started running more , more often.
clue me when started getting bios error messages fan being shut off! wasn't (because hear it), bothered me lot.
replaced fan 1 bought off internet. lot of work taking laptop apart , reassembling -- now, new fan runs quietly , no longer error messages.
fan cost great sum of $30 -- thought worth cost when faced spending $500 new laptop same features. but, if you're not effort of tearing apart, should repair estimates.
