Creating a new file

yes, simple sounds, cannot figure out how simple task in builder.

 

used studio years, homesite, forced move builder.  (call me old fashioned.)

 

already don't builder.   it's slow.

 

huge learning curve ... but  how h3ll create new template?

 

i mean file new .. done .. .nope.

 

> coldfusion page ... cannot type in name field.  no projects available ... don't need one!

 

> file, nope ...

 

>  open existing template, save new name, open template, , wipe out contents?  (not joking)

 

> ctrl-n ... select wizard.

 

is editor cf developers using?

 

i forced switch

 

a)  new hardware new workstations.  old hardware "died".

 

1.  windows 7, cannot install homesite it.

2.  did manage install homesite (older version) ... trial 30 days ... not let me enter valid serial number after trial.

or go dreamweaver? 

 

or retire , forget adobe ever existed? 

it’s reasonable question, think may have answer/solution you.  not perfect one, hope better nothing.

 

first, cfb indeed (like eclipse-based products) rely on “projects”, opposed working file system directly. that’s bit different dw, bit. it’s similar in concept “site”. of course, dw did not force pick “site” in new file exist.

 

that said, not entirely forced use projects in cfb. 1 thing, rather use navigator view (which far commonly used in cfb , eclipse-based editors), can use file view (windows>show view>file).

 

now, respect creating file, geared toward projects, whether file>new>coldfusion page, or file>new file. notice there file>new>other. there can choose untitled files, , within choose among html file, text file, , others. set of functionality provided in cfb inclusion of aptana plug-in, developers wanted stop people being forced use projects.

 

opening 1 of indeed open new editor tab ready typing, without requiring name file location. , after entering text, can save file (ctrl-s, normal) , offer save file system, not project.

 

as shortcuts open file, well, had noticed ctrl-n opened “wizard”, put it. in fact file>new>other dialog mention above, can select untitled files section , these other ‘types”.  while may seem annoying have select “untitled files” section , “type” want, notice remembers 1 ctrl-n another. it’s step in right direction.

 

i’ll note can set own shortcut if want, using window>preferences>general>keys, type “untitled html”, instance, in “filter” box, click on “bindings” field , type keystroke may want use, ctrl-shift-n. , click “ok”. have single-keystroke “new file” back.

 

let know if helps. appreciate it’s not perfect solution. cfb doesn’t offer sexy different “new page” layout choices dw does, , doubt ever will.  dw geared toward html development. cfb geared toward cfml development. don’t know twain shall ever meet, aptana plugin that’s embedded within cfb.
