Thread: Total Migration

well...not sure start. i'm still bit new ubuntu. anyway, i'm running 11.04 on netbook (one hard drive). i'm triple booting windows xp, ubuntu 11.04, , backtrack 5 btw.

getting new desktop , new notebook. i've spent hours customizing netbook. icons in burg/grub fancy compiz things. don't want have try remember did , repeat on 2 computers.

there program or method let me clone on hdd or partition , move new hardware. don't mind tweaking work new computer, digging customizations painful.

dualbooting on new computers well, if let me clone bootloader too, that'd great.

sorry noobish post, i'm kind of thing. it's been long day, appreciated.

three different ideas you:

if make fresh installation of ubuntu, can copy entire home folder (/home/user), including hidden folders , files, new installation. not clone drive, carry across settings , data.

if want clone entire drive (not idea windows), can use clonezilla. runs cd or usb. afterwards, need change computer's name in 3 systems (windows, ubuntu , backtrack) prevent conflict on network first computer.

if want clone ubuntu, clean installation of ubuntu on new computer (to bootloader installed). use clonezilla clone ubuntu partition. afterwards, have repair grub.
