Thread: Linux Mint 11 won't boot after failed attempt of installing Nvidia drivers


hey,

have linux mint 11 kernel 3.0.0-12. yesterday mint didn't boot desktop after login screen. worked earlier, in spite crashes reason after pc has been on hours.

so, here did on recovery command prompt:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
that gives me:

the following packages have been kept back:  linux-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image-generic  0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 remove , 3 not upgraded.  1 not installed or removed.  after operation, 0 b additional disk space used.  want continue [y/n]? y  setting nvidia-current (295.33-0ubuntu1~natty~xup1) ...  update-alternatives: error: alternative link /usr/share/man/man1/nvidia-xconfig.1.gz managed x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf.  dpkg: error processing installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2  errors encountered while processing:  nvidia-current  e: sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned error code (1)  sudo apt-get install nvidia-settings nvidia-common
this command gives same. driver tries install version 295.33

earlier had put ppa:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
the thing still want say, resolution on login screen dropped rapidly 1920x1080 resolution 800x600. not application starts on login, can hear login sound.
