Is there a way to select matching pixels on 2 different layers?

hey there,

i've been wondering long time , can't seem figure out. hope u guys can me crack this.

if shoot 2 different portraits (of 2 different people), against same background (a complex 1 not backdrop), using locked frame on tripod, giving me same exact background in both pictures, portraits changing.

if take these 2 pictures, , create layers out of them in same photoshop document, , align them on top of each other.

is there way (action, plugin, script, etc...) select pixels did not change between 2 layers? in other words, pixels create background of both pictures?

and make easier if shoot background alone, , portraits, , follow same steps?

i'm posting this, , crossing fingers.

thanks,

pierre.

changing blend mode of upper layer difference, show identical pixels full black.  make selection, you'd need produce copy merged layer (shift ctrl alt e) , select full black pixels simple method using magic wand low tolerance value.  in fact tolerance of '1' select identical pixels, tiny variations in lighting etc. may need higher tolerance.

save selection, turn off copy merged layer, change blend mode of upper layer normal > , go.

i wondering how intend using though, , sort of end result hoping for?  give try , come if doesn't work out
