hi icerevolt, welcome forums.
please post specs of laptop, cpu , amount of ram has. default current ubuntu requires 1gb run smoothly.
also, if want use ubuntu usb hard drive (either in live mode or installed), don't need third party tool make bootable. ubuntu installer automatically you.
however, believe no-cd-drive limitation of netbook forcing so. if so, try unetbootin instead.
info, live session has limitations (even persistence). usb hard drive (internal or external), full installation recommended. preferred way on 'no cd drive system' is:
- install vmware or virtualbox on running os > create 'blank' virtual machine in > boot downloaded iso > connect usb hard drive > install ubuntu on usual. if seems work (although isn't, , having vms proves useful later), way is:
- create bootable usb flash drive using unetbootin > boot computer > connect usb hard drive > install ubuntu flash drive onto hard drive. in method, have careful make sure bootloader installed on external hard drive, not on internal one.
please tell me if seems 'tekky' i'll try simplify description.
