Thread: HELP ubuntu 11.10 monitor frozen

so had working great on ubuntu 11.10 w/ati radeon 6570 hdmi asus vw246h 1920x1080 lcd monitor. tried adding 2nd acer x221w(1680x1050 max) monitor dvi port.
ran issues without being able display continuous multi (non-mirror mode) , followed advice here...
http://askubuntu.com/questions/71457...ith-ati-driver

toyed around increasing virtual memory in /etc/x11/xorg.conf
, modifying gksudo amdccle

kept trying adjust independent monitor settings on ubuntu display configure window , reset 1st 1600x1280. both screens shutdown.

had hard reboot bizarre screen, it's missing 1/2 display. 1 monitor works. removed acer dvi connection on card. can't dual-boot win; goes right quasi ubuntu screen ; allows login , can barely type , screen trailing on place.

help!

edit:
whew got 1 working again (acer).

in display setup,
try 1680x1050 on acer
, 1900x1080 on asus
, shuts off asus

can mirror low res, can't both @ continous multi display , max.
thoughts appreciated.

edit 2:
still complaining virtual size, i'm forcing desired size:
i'm getting annoying, amd unsupported hardware icon on bottom right.

i able switch monitors, both 1920x1080 , went amd catalyst settings , re-applied. appears work ok. maybe issue mixing 1920x1080 , 1600x1050
vertical dimensions different (but i'd think somehow adjust).

still can't rid of amd unsupported hardware icon on bottom right though.
