i can't install on thing nothing! hp pavilion, model#p6-2133w. goes great until starts installing files & loose video. machine don't have older type video connection, dvi-d. want & need ubuntu! please help! have tried running live cd? if plays, may simple driver needs installed. hai, using ubuntu 10.04 (ls).from terminal "lspci -vnn |grep" command gives following ouput 0c:00.0 network controller [0280]: broadcom corporation bcm4312 802.11b/g [14e4:4315] (rev 01) have installed bcm43 driver via additional driver install utility in ubuntu.it working fine.but cant connect wireless network.it asks security key , keeps loading if security key correct.what problem.is related firmware using? firmware? please me out. Thread: Cant block udp (quake) ports with iptables

hi i've started getting traffic through server port 27960 , 27962 (quake ports) heading destination address of 83.170.84.81. these using udp. originate different ip addresses have tried block host , ports on udp protocol using iptables, ever not dropped. here's line iptables -l drop udp -- anywhere offendingaddress.co.uk udp dpt:27960 drop udp -- anywhere offendingaddress.co.uk udp dpt:27962 , have them first in list here's iptables commands used: iptables -a input -d ip.add.re.ss -p udp --dport 27960 -j drop iptables -a input -d ip.add.re.ss -p udp --dport 27962 -j drop i've tried different combinations still cant block them have tried blocking of source hosts, doesn't work either ideas anybody? john if don't care destination, if don't mind blocking ports all, drop -d option: iptables -a input -p udp --dport 27960 -j drop also, working iptables...

Thread: Terminal closes when switching windows

i'm having trouble terminal window closing when switch window (eg internet browser, officelibra, pdf viewer etc). annoying, because i'm running octave, runs within terminal, lose work whenever go check on internet, or refer document. known feature of terminal can turn off, or need fix? i'm running ubuntu 11.10 on lg e500 laptop. appreciated! now, i'm running work around using terminator application launch octave. is doing when run octave, or can open terminal window else , term closes? if always, have tried using terminal program? there many options. odd problem... never heard of happening. how fit 1hr 42 min video onto 4.7gb dvd using encore import timeline. set "transcode setting" asset "automatic." add menus, motion menus, , navigation before  transcode or build. best use minimally compressed file method.   second method: use bitrate calculator, , transcode using settings. best when export original file rather after importing.   if need more detail, let know. i having toruble in viewing application form imm5257. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/imm5257b_1.pdf when use view can fill form keeps on saying need install later version. tried install different versions including latest 1 still won't work. want fill form can apply visitor's visa. pls help! that's livecycle form, must opening in adobe acrobat or adobe reader. if use else (such inbuilt pdf display engine in firefox or safari) won't work. i have media computer setup these specs: pentium 4 @ 3.0ghz, ht 4gb dual channel ddr 400 mhz ram radeon x300 graphics card 300w brand-name psu has pci express graphics slot. running ubuntu 11.10, plan upgrade 12.04 when comes out. radeon x300 painfully slow. video played in fullscreen @ 1920x1080 choppy. blame poor drivers, card isnt one. want upgrade graphics card can play fullscreen 1080p videos, , light gaming. being media computer, needs quiet. fanless or quiet fans. budget: $40-50 best card can find nvidia geforce 520, seems best deal: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82e16814121567 thoughts or recommendations? that looks pretty me. doesn't have fan + in book -- quieter , no risk of overheating due fan failure. seems amd/ati has gotten better linux support i'd still choose nvidia. here's list of nvidia chipsets supported latest 64 bit driver: http://www.nvidia.com/obje...
