Thread: How do I do an offline CLI?

how do offline command line install?

internet connection quite slow , disconnects. install absolute minimal (64 bit) system (http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/ubuntu-minimal) without need internet connection.

of available iso images offer feature?

there 3 levels of complexity, each represented metapackage:

ubuntu-minimal - basic bootable system. bare bones, little real functionality.
ubuntu-standard - fully-featured command-line system (ubuntu-minimal plus bunch)
*buntu-desktop - fully-featured gui desktop system (ubuntu-standard plus bunch)

if dive dependencies, you'll see packages , applications rely upon metapackage.

alternate cd enables install ubuntu-standard, starting point fully-featured cli you're looking for.

minimal package linked is, of course, ubuntu-minimal metapackage, , available @ https://help.ubuntu.com/community/in...tion/minimalcd . normally, minimal requires internet connection, because want add lots of packages flesh out minimal skeleton.

in addition, may wish install apt-offline, aptoncd, or apt-zip, or other offline package management solution. manually tracing dependencies , downloading , copying packages /var/cache/apt can bit tedious. i've done it...ugh.
