Thread: Installing Google Chrome
i remember having trouble installing google chrome ubuntu 11.10 (64bit), here's general layout how installed chrome on ubuntu:
after downloaded google chrome, unpackaged file. can how unpackage file looking extension (e.g. *.deb). version downloaded "64 bit .deb (for debian/ubuntu)"--which depackage sudo dpkg -i <name_of_the_file_.deb>--on terminal screen.
before running code make sure you're absolutely sure code run safe. in addition, pointed terminal directory saved *.deb file. requires move on appropriate directory command 'dir'.
after run depackaging command, terminal screen indicated run sudo apt-get -f install (this command downloaded interface chrome installs after run apt-get -f install). afterwards, cruising 64bit browser optimized 64bit o.s.. i'm little biased in writing post because mozilla hasn't released 64bit version of firefox. moreover, chrome uses system resources more efficiently 32bit browser (though, internet users not notice difference in speeds). reason chrome because of sandbox feature wherein errors cause tabs crash rather crashing entire browser.
can run benchmarks between browsers on @ dromaeo (the mozilla benchmark site) see difference.
why complicate things? visit google chrome download page, click download button, select deb option according architecture , save file. after downloading, right-click on downloaded deb file, select "open >> ubuntu software center". wait load , click install.
can install open source version repositories. launch ubuntu software center , search chromium. click install button.
well, unfortunately must disagree.
mozilla has been providing 64bit builds of firefox long time. don't make available on firefox main page. however, if using 64bit ubuntu, firefox 64bit. if want download form mozilla, visit ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/
chrome doesn't use resources more efficiently. if fact benchmarks , personal experience shows uses more ram vanilla firefox.
