Thread: ifconfig shows wrong MAC for eth0

i have thinkpad laptop use on wired network lot. reason, when run ifconfig says mac address eth0 aa:00:04:00:0a:04, while network manager saying f0e:f1:8d:3b:6c. pretty sure latter correct , somehow ifconfig confused. can still connect network , ip dhcp server, giving me address dynamic pool, while should getting static based on mac address.

ideas why ifconfig , network-manager showing different hw addresses?

tried set mac address manually ifconfig, changed it, upon reboot goes other address...

here hw lspci:

code:
00:19.0 ethernet controller: intel corporation 82579lm gigabit network connection (rev 04)
also, how 1 find hw address burned onto network interface (the absolutely right one)?

help!
