Thread: 11.10 Ubuntu does not shutdown/restart

hi all.

post have been on uf while now. still learning linux/ubuntu time goes on.

have strange problem of sudden.

i've had 11.10 on machine since release. no problems.

not sure when problem started occuring machine not reboot/shutdown via ubuntu. when logged in , select shutdown or restart, logs me off , directed main login screen. attempting shutdown or restart there renders useless well. menu pops up. restart/shutdown selected. nothing happens.

ideas?

in advance!

i saw same issue myself. had no idea how fix it. had re-install because of pilot error during initial installation. fixed issue.
being said, take @ /etc/shutdown.allow file , make sure have permissions shutdown , reboot...

steps follows

# sudo vi /etc/shutdown.allow

arrow down until reach below set of strings and
compare... match?

%shutdown all=(root) nopasswd: /sbin/reboot
%shutdown all=(root) nopasswd: /sbin/halt
%shutdown all=(root) nopasswd: /sbin/shutdown

not intended resolution, place start.
