Thread: Complex problem: sound, graphics, user rights etc.

hi,

in serious need of , couldn't find answer anywhere.

today, following problems simultaneously appeared in 11.10 system:
– sound stopped working, seeing "dummy device" in sound settings
– graphics acceleration not work more, i.e. using fallback 2d interface now
– cannot use user accounts setting more, "unlock" button greyed out
– machine not shut down or reboot, instead gets stuck somewhere after usual "pulseaudio" notice
– update , software center not work more: clicking on "install" buttons not anything
– log file viewer not show (literally)

of these problems appeared @ same time, should connected. seems complex user rights issue, have no idea might or how tackle it.
using autologin, in case of relevance.


way, problem has short history:
ran similar issue (just graphics , unlock button thing) after upgrading 11.10 earlier week. similar problems on forum suggested switching lightdm gdm , again. after did that, system not boot more, getting stuck after "pulseaudio" or "checking battery state" messages.
since had planned on migrating hd anyway, begrudgingly reinstalled ubuntu , took important data me (thunderbirdprofiles etc) in order not import bugs.
worked fine 2 days, problems back, , more.


reinstallation did not work, can now? reading post, , help!

okay, solved problem, although still don't understand happened.

turns out dumb hack blame did years ago:
using ecryptfs encrypt folder. reason, didn't want automount, crudely renamed "auto-mount" file in ~/.ecryptfs/ else. worked well, until 11.10 upgrade.

haven't found evidence of in log files, , changed out of weird intiution.

suppose theaches me not mess powers don't understand…

"Could not fill because there are not enough opaque source pixels" - not solved by any other thread

i'm getting error posted in thread's title , have no idea why.  working image not transparent in way. 100% opacity.  in fact, doesn't matter work with, every time try fill selection on layer in doc, error.  ideas???  thanks   scott probably see screen shot of photoshop layers panel open. at point guess can make wrong layer selected, once see screen, else may pop out @ me, or else reading thread. Why can't I change the billing info for my account?

hi all,   about 3 weeks ago issued new corporate cc number. have been trying since find way update in website. everytime try load billing info message 'there has been error on our side, please try again later.' has been happening weeks now. decided, if they're not going fix it, i'll call support.   i reported bug support, no response.   i called support , sat on hold update cc. hung on when should have been answered. happened twice (i'm persistent).   i registered call-back. got call-back, , told needed go person. got warm transfer because of above problem.   this person told me needed talk yet different team, , schedule call me in 1-2 hours.   it has been on week, maybe week , half since supposed receive call-back, , ticket updated yesterday; they've tried reach me no success (yeah, right), them do? left note: call me @ number within next 4 hours, , can settle this. guess got pacific time support team, because called 16 hours later (i'm gmt, way; company u...
