Thread: New Sound Card, No POST, Much Less X/Ubuntu

hello. i'm hoping can give me idea of here.

background: have turtle beach santa cruz sound card being detected, not working under xubuntu. high-pitched sound. can't adjust through alsamixer, , can't seem stay connected pulseaudio server when using related configuration tools. apparently, there sort of unresolved bug. so, did little research , bought new card (asus xonar dg).

problem: when new asus xonar dg card installed, computer not post--all black screen.

computer post old card installed, , without sound card @ all. not post new card.

i've gone bios , changed settings such bios configures needs @ boot. pretty option in bios--but can double check next time boot update post.

[[ edit provide update on bios configuration:

boot configuration

plug & play o/s [yes]
reset config data [yes]
numlock [on]

plug & play o/s option: no, lets bios configure devices in system. yes, lets operating system configure plug , play (pnp) devices not required boot if system has plug , play operating system.

reset config data: no, not force pnp data cleared on boot. yes, clears pci/pnp configuration data stored in flash on next boot. ]]

have dell dimension 4400 (yes, it's little old), specs here: http://support.dell.com/support/edoc...4400/specs.htm

specs not indicate pci version have, appears pci v2.2. specs indicate intel 845 chip set, which, according following site, appears have pci 2.2:
http://www.intel.com/support/motherb.../cs-008634.htm

asus xonar dg, apparently, works pci v2.2 or above.

troubleshooting ideas? ideas card work?

thanks!

well, whatever reason, tried again before returning sound card store, , worked.

prior sound card working though, installed "new" video card. maybe made system changes in process , blindly stumbled solution; maybe wasn't working right begin with. no matter, have audio , video!
