Thread: problem with loading gui after installing unity 2d

well, have piece of older hardware, single core amd agp graphic card. 11.10 runs kinda slow, tried install unity 2d. after rebooted, purple screen cursor flicks on , off. tried recovery mode, shift key during boot doesn't seem anything, same goes ctrl+alt+f1. have unusable machine, since don't have live cd me. apeiciate help.

for older hardware, ubuntu not suitable. recommend instead using lighter distro. suggestions include xubuntu, lubuntu (very light), , bodhi (derived from, not part of, ubuntu family, , lighter lubuntu).
