Thread: When do I need to use "0x" prefix for GnuPG keys?

i see gnupg keys showing "0x" before short key (eg, 0xabcd1234).

noticed commands still work without 0x, gpg --fingerprint abcd1234 opposed gpg --fingerprint 0xabcd1234.

0x totally optional thing? or should use it? why used appears not needed terminal commands?

0x signifies hexadecimal.

safest use it,

example 9 9 in decimal , 9 in hexadecimal, 0x9 9 in hexadecimal
